Research fellow Eddy van Doorslaer (Erasmus University Rotterdam) has been selected by Dr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group, to join the G20 committee for the global agenda on sustainable financing of Universal Health Coverage. In 2019, Japan will take over the presidency of the G20 and seeks to seize this opportunity to strengthen and sustain high-level political commitment for Universal Health Coverage (UHC). In preparation for the G20, the Government of Japan (GoJ) and the World Bank, in potential cooperation with WHO and other international organizations, are partnering to build consensus around a global agenda for sustainable finance of UHC. The Committee will provide advice and inputs into two documents being drafted by the GoJ and the WBG to drive discussions at an extraordinary session of G20 Ministers of Finance and Health in June 2019. The Committee will ensure that the documents are based on state-of-the-art knowledge, are forward-looking and provide the basis for a sound and robust policy discussion and action.
