Eight good reasons to come to Tinbergen Institute

8. Tinbergen Institute has still more to offer...!

  Student facilities:
all students have access to computer facilities and office space

TI has its own offices, seminar rooms and a dedicated support staff in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Students have their own computer facilities and office space. The small-scale locations and the informal atmosphere at TI facilitate easy interaction between students, lecturers, research fellows and visitors. The MPhil students often collaborate on various assignments and become a closely-knit group. Worthy of special mention here are the annual Tinbergen Institute Lectures n 2008 by Pierre-André Chiappori, Columbia University) and in 2009 by Susan Athey, Harvard University); in 2010 by David Card (University of California), Frank Diebold (University of Pennsylvania) and Glenn Rudebusch (Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco), Darrell Duffie (Stanford Graduate School of Business) and David L. Yermack (New York University, Stern School of Business), in 2011 by Bengt Holmström (MIT), Xavier Gabaix (New York University) and Jerry Hausman (MIT) and the various invited guest lecturers (Geert Ridder, University of Southern California, and Bruno Biais, Universitxé Toulouse, among others).

And, last but not least, a word for both Amsterdam and Rotterdam which have a lively social and cultural environment (there are numerous theatres, cafés, museums, parks, canals, etc.) and their environs offer more bucolic distractions, such as beaches, sand dunes, waterways and wide-open spaces. Although these features are not an official part of the program, many find them a welcome addition to the Institute‘s challenging program!
