PhD Alumni Meeting 10-09-2010
The Tinbergen alumni board has the privilege to announce the forthcoming PhD alumni meeting on Friday September 10, 2010. In the afternoon (starting at 15:00) there will be a Symposium on "The Accuracy of Economic Forecasts", and in the evening (starting at about 18:30) a dinner. The venue for the symposium is the 'Rijksacademie' in The Hague (click here for directions), the dinner will take place in a nearby restaurant.
Registration: registration is closed. The event is for PhD alumni only.
About the symposium:
Forecasting the macro-economic situation is a difficult task. The complexity and importance of this task increases when the economy is in recession. In this Symposium on "The Accuracy of Economic Forecasts" we will look at how forecasts for the macro-economy are made, and the challenges that lay here. In addition, we seek whether economists can learn from forecasts made in other settings such as forecasting medals at the olympics.
The speakers of the symposium are:
- Professor Coen Teulings (CPB, University of Amsterdam) on "Macro- economic forecasts and the current crisis";
- Professor Elmer Sterken (University of Groningen) on "Forecasting medals: Lessons for economists".
