Installation of Ox
To get Ox running, it depends where you want to install it.
Ox at the TIA
You can use the version installed over the network. There used to be
a Applications
folder manual among the tutorials,
but those links seem to be down...
Effectively, it states
- Create a shortcut to v:\OxMetrics5\OxEdit\OxEdit.exe on
your desktop
- Start OxEdit, and use the menu option
Tools - Add/Remove Modules
In this screen, select the button Load From at the bottom, and select the file
v:\OxMetrics5\OxEdit\OxEditTIA.Tool.
Ox at TIR
At the Erasmus University, you need administrator permissions to install
Ox. Therefore,
- Email support@ese.eur.nl
asking for the installation of Ox, mentioning your PC name. They will
install Ox in c:\Program Files\OxMetrics5 for you
- For graphics, first install GnuPlot. Download the latest Windows
executable from
GnuPlot. Install
it into c:\home\pkg\gnuplot.
- Then install packages. For the graphics via GnuDraw, download
gnudraw5.zip and install this
into c:\home\pkg\oxmetrics5\ox. Check that afterwards you
have e.g. the file
c:\home\pkg\oxmetrics5\ox\packages\gnudraw\gnudraw.h in
precisely this location.
- (Optionally) Install other packages, like OxUtils, SsfPack
or M@ximize,
also by placing them underneath c:\home\pkg\OxMetrics5\ox
- Create a shortcut to c:\program files\OxMetrics5\OxEdit\OxEdit.exe on
your desktop if it is not there.
- Start OxEdit, and use the menu option
Tools - Add/Remove Modules
In this screen, select the button Load From at the bottom, and select the file
c:\home\pkg\OxMetrics5\ox\packages\gnudraw\oxedit_gnudraw.tool.
This will include links to GnuDraw options in the OxEdit menu.
Ox at VU
At the VU, Ox 6.0 is installed at the Q-drive, in the
q:\algemeen\oxmetrics6\ folder.
- Start the OxMetrics
executable from q:\algemeen\oxmetrics6\bin\oxmetrics.exe. It
may be convenient to create a shortcut to this executable on your desktop.
- Alternatively, you can use OxEdit from
q:\algemeen\oxmetrics6\OxEdit\oxedit.exe.
- Load an Ox file, e.g. q:\medewerkers\oxmetrics6\ox\samples\myfirst.ox
and check if Ox works. To change it, remember to first save it in a
directory of your own.
- Create a bookmark for the help file, which you find at
q:\medewerkers\oxmetrics6\ox\doc\index.html
Ox at home
At home, install Ox locally in the
c:\program files folder. To do so,
- Download the latest version of Ox console; at the
time of writing, the latest version is 5.10.
- Install it, accepting as installation directory the standard
c:\program files\OxMetrics5
- For graphics, first install GnuPlot. Download the latest Windows
executable from
GnuPlot. Install
it into c:\program files\gnuplot.
- Then install packages. For the graphics via GnuDraw, download
gnudraw5.zip and install this
into c:\program files\oxmetrics5\ox. Check that afterwards you
have e.g. the file
c:\program files\oxmetrics5\ox\packages\gnudraw\gnudraw.h in
precisely this location.
- (Optionally) Install other packages, like OxUtils, SsfPack
or M@ximize,
also by placing them underneath c:\program files\OxMetrics5\ox
- Create a shortcut to c:\program files\OxMetrics5\OxEdit\OxEdit.exe on
your desktop if it is not there.
- Start OxEdit, and use the menu option
Tools - Add/Remove Modules
In this screen, select the button Load From at the bottom, and select the file
c:\program files\OxMetrics5\Ox\bin\OxEdit\OxCons.Tool.
Afterwards, in the same way, load the tool file
c:\program files\OxMetrics5\ox\packages\gnudraw\oxedit_gnudraw.tool.
This will include links to GnuDraw options in the OxEdit menu.
Test your Ox installation
Test your Ox installation by loading
OxMetrics5\Ox\packages\gnudraw\samples\drawacf.ox in OxEdit,
and running it. If the graph appears on screen, all should be well.
