Jurre Thiel wins KVS Medal for best PhD thesis in Economics

Alumnus Jurre Thiel is the winner of the prestigious KVS Medal (‘Penning’) 2020 for best PhD thesis defended in the field of economics at a Dutch university in the past three years.

Jurre Thiel wins KVS Medal for best PhD thesis in Economics

Jurre won the medal for his PhD thesis entitled ‘Competition, dynamic pricing and advice in frictional markets: Theory and evidence from the Dutch market for mortgages' defended on January 14, 2020 at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Research fellow José Luis Moraga-González acted as supervisor. The winner was announced on the last day of this year's Nederlandse Economenweek (November 16-20) organized by KVS. Alumna Esmée Zwiers (Princeton University, United States) received an honorable mention by the jury. Read the jury report (in Dutch) here.

Jurre is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. He works in industrial organization, with a focus on dynamics and household finance. He is a graduate of the Tinbergen Institute research master's program in economics (2015). Read more about Jurre on his personal website.

The KVS medal is awarded every three years for the best PhD thesis in the economic sciences, defended at a university in the Netherlands. The winner of the KVS medal also receives a financial award. The Royal Dutch Economic Association (‘Koninklijke Vereniging voor Staathuishoudkunde’) award the KVS Penning since 1999.
